Modernizing for inclusion and efficiency
Fundación ONCE, a Spanish non-profit organization focused on the social and professional inclusion of people with disabilities, relied on an antiquated system for managing service procurement requests. The system was slow, cumbersome and lacked integration with SAP, which meant financial data had to be processed manually. This led to inefficient request tracking and error-prone processes, and limited visibility in operational performance.
The overall experience was far from efficient, prompting Fundación ONCE to seek a way to replace the service procurement lifecycle with a new, fully accessible application.
“With OutSystems and Glintt Next, we did not just modernize a process; we made it truly accessible. The new application empowers all our employees, regardless of their abilities, to participate equally on our work platforms. This is technology aligned with our mission.” Borja Garcia, Head of IT, Fundación ONCE
A universal design for automated and accessible procurement
Fundación ONCE collaborated with Glintt Next, an OutSystems implementation expert, to develop a new application on the OutSystems low-code platform. The solution fully digitizes and automates the service request lifecycle, and one of its central pillars is an unwavering commitment to accessibility. The new application was meticulously designed to comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards and was rigorously tested with leading assistive technologies like JAWS, NVDA, and ZoomText. The universal and inclusive design of the new interface empowers all employees to navigate the system and complete tasks independently, regardless of their abilities.
The project also integrates seamlessly with SAP, enabling real-time financial data synchronization and eliminating the need for manual input. This significantly reduced accounting errors and freed up employee time for more valuable tasks. The application further supports the generation of accessible reports, ensuring information is available to all users.
Results: 85% faster processing and true digital inclusion
The implementation of the new OutSystems solution has yielded transformative results for Fundación ONCE. The total processing time for service requests was reduced by an impressive 85%, with new requests now created in under five minutes. The automation of financial workflows and data validation led to a 70% decrease in accounting errors and manual tasks, significantly improving operational efficiency and visibility into request statuses.
Most importantly, the solution is now 100% compatible with assistive technologies, improving digital accessibility and equal opportunities for all employees.
Beyond the measurable improvements, the project has reinforced Fundación ONCE’s core mission of promoting inclusion, extending it to their internal operations. By delivering a scalable solution that is both technologically advanced and socially responsible, the organization sets a benchmark for how accessibility, innovation, and efficiency can come together.
Fundación ONCE will continue leveraging OutSystems’ AI capabilities to evolve its procurement system and to develop new solutions, using Mentor to validate new business ideas and accelerate innovation.
